Disc jockey Kudirat Gbemisola, widely known as DJ Kulet, has publicly shared details of her past involvement in prostitution, describing it as part of a difficult chapter in her life before embracing a new path.

Speaking during a church testimony on Sunday, the Lagos-based DJ recounted her experiences, revealing that she once lived on the streets and struggled with homelessness in the Surulere area, particularly around Lawanson.

In a follow-up post on Instagram on Monday, Kulet reflected on her personal journey, characterising it as a transformation “from a mess to a message.” She explained that during her early years in Lagos, she survived through prostitution while navigating unstable living conditions.

According to her, her situation began to improve gradually when a man helped secure her first single-room apartment. She later moved into a self-contained apartment sponsored by another benefactor, before eventually becoming financially independent through her career as a DJ.

Kulet also revealed that she once spent two years living in an unfinished building without a toilet facility, relying on external options due to the landlord’s failure to complete the property.

Despite these challenges, she said her career progressed, enabling her to move into a four-bedroom en-suite apartment funded by her work as a disc jockey.

The entertainer added that her biggest milestone came in April 2024, when she purchased her own home in Surulere, paying in full without relying on her former lifestyle.

Kulet described the achievement as deeply symbolic, noting that she now owns property in the same area where she once faced some of her lowest moments.

Her story has since drawn attention online, with many viewing it as a narrative of resilience, personal change, and social mobility.
