Alexer Peres, the former wife of Nigerian singer Harrysong, has announced her decision to temporarily relinquish custody of their two children, aged four and three, citing emotional exhaustion and alleged harassment by her ex-husband.
In an emotional video shared online, Alexer revealed that she has largely handled the responsibilities of raising the children alone since their separation, with the children only occasionally visiting their father.
“I want this to serve as evidence that I’m making the hardest decision of my life,” she said. “At this point, I have no option. I’ve been doing my best for my kids. They visit their dad and go to school from my place. It’s been two years.”
Alexer accused Harrysong of constant interference in her life, alleging that he shows up at her residence unannounced, making it increasingly difficult for her to care for the children.
“This man has not let me rest. He frustrates my efforts and harasses me everywhere,” she said, adding that the emotional pressure has become overwhelming.
According to her, the decision to hand over custody is temporary and does not signal an end to her role as a mother. “I’m giving him custody for now. That doesn’t mean I won’t come back for my children,” she stressed.
She also expressed concern about the children being left in the care of domestic staff, claiming that their father is often absent. “They are just four and three years old. You want them to live with house help because I refused to come back?” she asked.
Anticipating public pushback, Alexer acknowledged that her ex-husband may dispute her claims. “He will come out to counter everything. I’m not doing this because I’m weak. I need to live,” she said.
Appealing for the safety of her children, she reiterated her commitment to them, noting that no mother willingly chooses to live apart from her kids. “I don’t know what else to do, but I’ll always come back. I want you in my life,” she said.
Harrysong and Alexer married in 2021 and have publicly acknowledged challenges in their marriage. While the singer had earlier asked for privacy during the difficult period, Alexer announced in January 2024 that she was “officially done” with the marriage.
