Ijeoma Otabor, widely known as Phyna and winner of Big Brother Naija Level Up 2022, has opened up about her views on gender roles and societal expectations, saying she sometimes wishes she were a man.

Speaking on her podcast, the reality TV star reflected on how differently ambition and success are perceived based on gender, arguing that men often face fewer social restrictions.

According to her, society tends to place a clearer and less complicated expectation on men—primarily to work hard and achieve financial stability—without the added pressure of constant judgment.

“I low-key wish I were a man. I feel it’s much easier for guys, but girls, we’ve been stigmatised, and there are so many rules and regulations covering us,” she said.

Phyna explained that women, in contrast, often navigate a web of expectations that can limit their choices and discourage them from pursuing ambitious goals beyond traditional roles.

She noted that these societal pressures can affect women in different fields, including entertainment and business, where she has personally experienced the challenges of public scrutiny.

Her comments add to ongoing conversations around gender inequality and the barriers women face in both personal and professional spaces.
