Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has responded to the criticism that followed his performance at the 2026 All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, explaining that his decision to appear at the event was influenced by family ties.

The award-winning artiste came under fire after performing at the ruling party’s convention at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic challenges and rising insecurity across the country.

Critics argued that public figures should be demanding greater accountability from political leaders rather than participating in partisan political events.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Black Box podcast, Ice Prince addressed the controversy and disclosed that the invitation to perform came from APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, whom he described as a close family member.

According to the rapper, his appearance at the convention was not politically motivated but was rooted in his personal relationship with the APC leader.

“Who booked me for that event? My uncle – Nentawe Yilwatda, who is the APC Chairman. He is not just a random person to me. He is my real uncle,” Ice Prince said.

The artiste’s explanation has since sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters defending his decision based on family loyalty, while others maintain that celebrities should remain mindful of the political implications of such appearances.
