The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has relieved the state’s Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, of his appointment with immediate effect.

The decision was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.

According to the statement, the move forms part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the state civil service to enhance efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across government institutions.

“The decision forms part of the ongoing efforts of the present administration to reposition the state civil service for greater efficiency, discipline, and improved service delivery across all government institutions,” the statement said.

Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavours.

Following the development, the governor directed Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services at the Cabinet Office, to serve as acting Head of Service pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.

He also instructed Musa to hand over the affairs of the office to the acting Head of Service no later than Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

The development comes amid recent political realignments in the state following Yusuf’s defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.

Observers say the shift has triggered a wave of adjustments within the political and administrative structures of the state government as the administration aligns with its new party platform while pursuing reforms within the civil service.
