The leadership of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency II has declared support for the political aspiration of Kehinde Bamigbetan.
The endorsement came during an interactive session held at the APC secretariat in Isolo, where Bamigbetan, a former chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), met with party members and disability group representatives.
The meeting was facilitated by Temitope Agbabiaka, APC representative for PLWDs in Isolo LCDA, alongside his Ejigbo counterpart, Rose Uti. The gathering included ward executive members and leaders representing clusters of the blind, deaf, and albino communities.
Speaking at the event, Bamigbetan commended the Lagos State Government for promoting inclusiveness through the establishment of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA). He also recalled his involvement in the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, which introduced a N500 million Disability Fund aimed at supporting persons with disabilities.
As part of his plans for the constituency, Bamigbetan pledged to introduce a transportation initiative dedicated to PLWDs, beginning with the provision of buses in Isolo and Ejigbo to ease mobility challenges. He further promised to seek grants from local and international donor organisations to strengthen empowerment programmes for the disability community.
The APC chieftain also opposed the idea of segregated schools for persons with disabilities, arguing that such a policy could deepen social division and hinder integration within society. According to him, PLWDs should have equal access to social, economic, and infrastructural opportunities within their communities.
Bamigbetan assured the gathering that he would engage relevant federal institutions to improve access to resources, development opportunities, and essential facilities for PLWDs. He added that a dedicated disability affairs desk would be created in his constituency office to address their concerns directly.
Highlighting the importance of political participation, he urged members of the disability community to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing the need to support leaders committed to their welfare.
He also vowed to advocate for the enforcement of the five per cent employment quota for persons with disabilities in the public sector through direct engagement with relevant authorities.
Bamigbetan further promised to maintain close communication with the PLWD community through regular consultations and special engagement programmes tailored to their needs.
In his remarks, Temitope Agbabiaka praised Bamigbetan for his commitment and consistent interest in the welfare of persons living with disabilities, describing him as a leader who genuinely cares about their wellbeing.
