The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, has reiterated that Lagos remains the driving force behind Nigeria’s economy, despite Abuja serving as the nation’s capital.
Obasa made this known while hosting the leadership of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), led by its president, Leye Kupoluyi, during a courtesy visit to the Assembly.
According to the Speaker, Lagos continues to stand out as the preferred destination for investment, attributing this to deliberate legislative efforts aimed at creating a business-friendly climate. He pointed to key laws such as the Public Private Partnership Law, the Employment Trust Fund Law, and the Lagos State Lottery Law as strategic frameworks designed to empower entrepreneurs, attract investors, and sustain economic growth.
“Lagos is the centre of Nigeria’s economy. We have always been pro-business and pro-people, and our laws reflect this commitment. Lagos is strategically positioned to be a leading light in Africa,” Obasa stated.
In his remarks, Kupoluyi praised the Assembly’s initiatives and called for deeper collaboration between lawmakers and the private sector. He emphasized the need for sustained policies that simplify business operations and enhance economic development across the state.
The LCCI delegation included prominent members such as Chief Varkey Verghese, Sir Ladi Smith, Princess Layo Bakare-Okeowo, Chinyere Almona, Dr. Sunnie Omeiza-Michael, and Mrs. Akintunde Temitope.
Also present at the meeting were lawmakers including Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Hon. Oladele Ajomale, Hon. Jubril AbdulKareem, Hon. Bonu Solomon, and Hon. Ajayi, alongside the Clerk of the House, Lekan Onafeko, and aides to the Speaker.
