A sweeping wave of religious, cultural, and social activities has taken over Ogun East Senatorial District as former governor Gbenga Daniel celebrates his 70th birthday in grand style.
The week-long celebration, branded “OGD @ 70,” has drawn widespread participation across all nine local government areas, underscoring both the celebrant’s enduring grassroots appeal and his continued political relevance in Ogun State.
Festivities kicked off on Friday, April 3, 2026, with coordinated Islamic prayer sessions held in mosques across the district. The spiritual observances continued on Sunday, April 5, as churches in all nine LGAs organised thanksgiving services to honour Daniel’s life and contributions.
Cultural and recreational events added colour to the celebrations, with Ijebu Ode emerging as a major hub. The town hosted a table tennis tournament alongside a traditional Ayo game competition, attracting participants and spectators from across the region.
The grand finale is set for Easter Monday, April 6, at the Abrahams Tabernacle in Sagamu, where a high-profile thanksgiving service is expected to bring together political heavyweights, religious leaders, and dignitaries nationwide.
In addition to the central events, large-scale receptions are scheduled across 11 state constituencies, including Sagamu, Ogijo, Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu Ode, Ogun Waterside, Remo North, Ikenne, Ijebu North, Ijebu North East, and Ijebu East. Each venue is projected to host over 1,000 guests, reflecting the extensive mobilisation behind the celebration.
