Media entrepreneur and publisher Dele Momodu has criticised what he described as the “bullying” of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, highlighting that Peter Obi once ran as his running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
In a post shared on X, Momodu described the situation as “extremely sad,” noting that Atiku had given Obi his first opportunity on a joint presidential ticket. He suggested that those behind the attacks may not represent genuine supporters, attributing the criticism to “fake OBIDIENTS” and possible agent provocateurs.
Speaking later during an X Space discussion, Momodu addressed broader issues surrounding Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election, including voting patterns and opposition politics—remarks that triggered mixed reactions online.
He challenged claims that Obi was denied victory, pointing instead to the overwhelming support the former Anambra governor received in his strongholds, where results were officially recorded.
Momodu also spoke on the complexities of building nationwide political appeal, particularly across regional divides, noting that securing broad-based support remains a major hurdle for southern candidates.
Defending Atiku’s political standing, Momodu described the former vice president as experienced and resilient, pointing out that he finished second in the last election. He added that the upcoming electoral cycle could prove निर्णative for Atiku’s future ambitions, suggesting it may be his final shot at the presidency.
While acknowledging citizens’ right to express opinions, Momodu cautioned against hostility and online abuse, urging supporters across party lines to maintain civility. He stressed that political disagreements should not devolve into personal attacks.
He also called for respectful engagement toward Bola Tinubu, warning that abusive rhetoric reflects poorly on those who promote it.
Despite ongoing criticism, Momodu reaffirmed his loyalty to Atiku, describing himself as “a last man standing” in continued support of the former vice president.
