Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting a rift between him and acclaimed filmmaker Funke Akindele, describing the claims as baseless fabrications fueled by social media.
Speaking during a BBC interview, Makinde clarified that his relationship with Akindele remains intact and cordial, despite online speculation hinting at a breakdown.
According to the actor, social media platforms often create and amplify unfounded narratives, assigning roles to individuals in stories that lack any factual basis. He stressed that such assumptions should not be mistaken for reality.
Makinde further noted that his bond with Akindele existed long before the influence of social media and cannot be defined—or dismantled—by online conversations.
Addressing perceptions of distance between them, he explained that personal growth and career progression can sometimes alter how relationships appear from the outside, leading to misinterpretations.
“Nothing really happened between Madam Funke and me, and I’m not aware of any fallout,” he said. “Social media likes to construct stories. They write their own script and then start looking for people to fit into the roles.
“Our relationship no start from social media and no be for social media e go end. Sometimes, as you grow and move from one level to another, some relationships may look like they’re lost in transit, but that’s not really the case.”
