Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has said he sometimes feels President Bola Tinubu is not fully in charge of his government.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News on Thursday, the former Anambra State governor challenged the President to address Nigerians personally on critical national issues rather than relying on aides, appointees and press statements.
“Sometimes I believe Tinubu is not in charge. All these things that his people are talking, he should be the one talking,” Obi stated. He added that if elected president in 2027, he would communicate directly with citizens without intermediaries. “Nobody will talk for Peter Obi. I will talk to my people,” he declared.
Obi also questioned the frequency of President Tinubu’s overseas trips, urging him to spend more time within the country and personally visit states grappling with serious challenges. He specifically mentioned Zamfara, Sokoto, Plateau and Kano, recommending that the President spend at least three days in each of these states.
The NDC candidate further insisted that a Nigerian president should take vacation within the country. He pledged that, if elected, he would travel to Sokoto to spend Sallah with the Sultan.
