Ogun APC Mobilises Buses for Alleged PDP Defection Rally in Ogun East

The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing for another major political gathering in Ogun East, with buses reportedly deployed across the senatorial district ahead of a rally billed as a mass defection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members into the ruling party.

But the planned event is already attracting scrutiny, with questions over whether the exercise represents a genuine opposition-to-APC realignment or a mobilisation of existing APC supporters designed to project an image of mass defection.

Sources familiar with the mobilisation told Country Times Nigeria that buses have been stationed at various locations across Ogun East to convey people to the event.

The development comes amid intensified political manoeuvring in the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 elections, as Governor Dapo Abiodun’s political camp seeks to strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure.

The ruling party recently announced the defection of political figures linked to the camp of former Governor Gbenga Daniel and the late Senator Buruji Kashamu, describing the development as a collapse of their political structures into the APC.

Abiodun, while receiving the delegation at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, reportedly assured the new entrants of full integration into the party’s structures.

However, the claim has generated political debate, particularly over the extent to which Daniel’s wider political structure has actually moved into the APC.

Against that backdrop, the latest planned rally is likely to face closer scrutiny.

If the APC intends to present the gathering as a mass defection from the PDP, questions are likely to centre on the identities and political antecedents of those said to be defecting.

Who are the alleged defectors? Which wards do they come from? What positions did they previously hold in the PDP? And have they formally resigned from the opposition party?

Those questions are important because political rallies can create an impression of mass support through organised transportation and mobilisation.

There is a clear distinction between mobilising existing APC supporters and bringing genuine opposition members into the party.

If the latest exercise represents a substantial political realignment in Ogun East, the APC should be able to demonstrate it through identifiable political actors, ward-level structures and verifiable defections.

For now, the buses are reportedly on the move.

The bigger question, however, is whether they are carrying genuine PDP defectors or simply a crowd assembled for a political spectacle.

For Ogun voters, the more consequential question may ultimately be simple: who actually crossed the political divide?
