The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has eased its earlier restrictions on SIM swapping and email changes, giving candidates who have lost access to their registered contact details a controlled pathway to update them.
The new arrangement took effect on Monday, September 21, 2026. It applies specifically to candidates who can no longer reach their registered phone numbers or recover their email accounts.
In a statement signed by its Director of Communications, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB said the decision followed the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures. These safeguards, the Board noted, are designed to curb fraud, impersonation and unauthorised alterations to candidates’ records.
Access to the service remains tightly regulated. Each candidate may use the facility only once, and it is available exclusively at designated JAMB CBT centres, PTC/PRC centres and applicable state offices.
To apply, candidates must:
• Provide a new GSM number and/or email address
• Submit a duly executed court affidavit (scanned and ready for upload)
• Log into their e-facility profile, make the required payment, and present themselves at a designated centre for biometric verification
Candidates may request a change of GSM number, email address, or both.
“The SIM swap and/or email change service shall be available only once,” the Board emphasised. It urged candidates to use the facility only in genuine cases and to patronise only approved JAMB centres.
JAMB described the reviewed policy as a measure to ensure that candidates who lose access to their registered credentials are not unnecessarily locked out of the system.
