The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the “Osun State Local Government Amendment No. 2 Bill 2026,” marking a significant legislative move to amend sections of the state’s local government law.

The bill scaled third reading during Monday’s plenary session held in Osogbo.

Earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Mr. Lawal Bamidele, presented the committee’s report on the proposed amendment along with its recommendations for consideration.

Following deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Adewale Egbedun, called for the adoption of the committee’s report.

The motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Mr. Babajide Adewumi, who also moved the motion for the bill’s third reading, leading to its eventual passage.

After the bill was approved, Egbedun announced that clean copies would be transmitted to Governor Ademola Adeleke for assent.

The amendment seeks to review aspects of the Osun State Local Government Law Cap 72 Vol. IV, Laws of Osun State 2002, alongside related provisions.

The House subsequently adjourned plenary to March 2.
