Lawmakers elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State have declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in 2027 and endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke for re-election in 2026.

The endorsement was announced at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held in Osogbo over the weekend.

Lawmakers Pass Vote of Confidence
Reading the communiqué on behalf of the legislators, Deputy Minority Leader of the National Assembly, Lere Oyewumi, commended Governor Adeleke for what he described as notable achievements in infrastructure, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education and democratic stability.

“Having reviewed the performance of the governor… we unanimously endorse and give our total support to Governor Adeleke for second term, in the interest of continuity, stability and sustained progress for Osun State,” Oyewumi said.

The lawmakers also passed a vote of confidence in the Osun PDP State Chairman, Sunday Bisi, warning individuals allegedly parading themselves as party executives to desist.

Backing Tinubu Despite Party Lines
In a move that may stir political debate, the PDP lawmakers reaffirmed their support for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Responding to questions from journalists, Senator Oyewumi stated: “On the party’s endorsement of President Tinubu, nothing has changed.

It is the party’s stance to back him in 2027 and also support Governor Adeleke in 2026.”

Tinubu is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), making the endorsement by opposition PDP lawmakers particularly significant.

Call for Intervention in Council Crisis
The legislators also urged President Tinubu to intervene in the lingering local government crisis in Osun State, calling on what they described as “illegal occupants” of council offices to vacate in order to prevent further unrest.

Among those present at the meeting were Hon. Bamidele Salam, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, Deputy Speaker Akinyode Oyewusi, and other federal and state lawmakers.

The dual endorsement signals evolving political alignments in Osun ahead of the 2026 governorship race and the 2027 presidential election, setting the stage for potentially shifting alliances in the state’s political landscape.
