Nollywood actor Damola Olatunji has strongly condemned a controversial plan by Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere to marry off his 21-year-old autistic adopted daughter, describing the move as deeply troubling and ethically questionable.
The cleric, founder of Omega Power Ministry, had earlier announced on Facebook that he was seeking a husband for the young woman, offering financial incentives and housing support to any interested suitor.
Reacting to the development, Olatunji said the proposal “has crossed a line and must be addressed seriously,” stressing that marriage requires clear, informed consent from both individuals involved.
He questioned whether the young woman, given her condition, could genuinely make such a life-altering decision independently. Instead of arranging a marriage, the actor suggested that establishing a structured care home would be a more compassionate and responsible approach.
Olatunji further emphasised that individuals living with Autism deserve dignity, protection, and proper support systems, warning against any actions that may exploit their vulnerability.
“The key question is whether she would freely choose marriage under normal circumstances, without any external pressure,” he said. “If not, that decision must be respected.”
He concluded by urging society to prioritise ethical care solutions over actions that could be perceived as manipulative or harmful, noting that there are more appropriate ways to support people with autism.
