The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims that its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, filed an appeal against a suspension, describing such reports as misleading and taken out of context.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, clarified that while Anyanwu did file an appeal, it was not related to any suspension from the party.
According to the PDP, the legal action originated from a case at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, where Anyanwu challenged the competence and proceedings of a disciplinary committee previously led by Tom Ikimi.
The party emphasized that the committee only recommended a suspension, which was never approved or ratified by its National Working Committee (NWC) or National Executive Committee (NEC), rendering it invalid.
It further noted that the disciplinary committee itself had been dissolved after it was found to have been constituted in violation of the party’s constitution. As a result, the PDP maintained that no legitimate suspension of Anyanwu ever existed.
The statement also clarified that a January 2026 judgment by the FCT High Court did not affirm any suspension. Instead, the court dismissed the case entirely, ruling that internal party disciplinary matters are not subject to judicial intervention.
The PDP disclosed that the appeal, filed on April 10, 2026, was done in error and has now been directed to be withdrawn, as it is no longer necessary.
Additionally, the party pointed out that Anyanwu and other individuals mentioned in the reports had already completed their tenures in office.
Reaffirming its legal standing, the PDP referenced an earlier Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which upheld the legitimacy of its National Caretaker Committee and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize it.
The party also defended its Abuja National Convention held on March 29 and 30, 2026, stating that it was conducted in line with court rulings and under INEC supervision.
The PDP urged media organizations to ensure accuracy and proper context in their reporting, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of misleading the public.
It reassured party members and Nigerians of its commitment to rebuilding and positioning itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
