Sanwo-Olu Celebrates Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki at 70, Hails Legacy of Service as Couple Marks 50 Years of Marriage

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended warm congratulations to former Senator and ex-First Lady of Ogun, Ondo and Lagos States, Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, as she marks her 70th birthday, describing her life as a shining example of service, grace and enduring impact.

Senator Raji-Rasaki, wife of former Military Governor of Ogun, Ondo and Lagos States, Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki (rtd), clocks 70 on Tuesday, January 13. The celebration also coincides with the couple’s golden wedding anniversary, marking 50 years of marriage.

In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded the former federal lawmaker’s remarkable contributions to governance, women empowerment and grassroots development, noting that her influence continues to resonate across Lagos State and beyond.

The Governor also congratulated the couple on their 50 years of marital union, describing the milestone as a rare and admirable achievement worthy of celebration.

“On behalf of my adorable wife, Ibijoke, the government and the good people of Lagos State, I heartily congratulate Senator Fatimat Raji-Rasaki on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee and golden wedding anniversary,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He commended her impactful tenure as Senator representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District in the Eighth National Assembly, where she served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment, and played key roles in shaping critical national legislations.

According to the Governor, Senator Raji-Rasaki emerged as a strong voice for gender equity, grassroots politics and women empowerment, while sponsoring landmark bills such as the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Bill and key amendments to the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

Beyond legislation, Sanwo-Olu described her as a compassionate humanitarian devoted to community development through empowerment initiatives targeted at widows, students and local entrepreneurs.

The Governor prayed for continued good health, strength and divine grace for Senator Raji-Rasaki, urging her to remain steadfast in her service to humanity. He also congratulated Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki (rtd) for celebrating what he described as “a jewel of inestimable value.”

He concluded by wishing the couple many more years of joy, peace and fulfillment as they mark the twin milestones of a fulfilled life and enduring union.
