Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy Obafemi Hamzat on Saturday joined residents and sanitation workers in a community clean-up exercise at Olosha in Idi-Oro, Mushin, marking the symbolic flag-off of Lagos State’s monthly environmental sanitation campaign.
A video shared by TVC News on X (formerly Twitter) captured the governor and his deputy actively participating in the exercise alongside environmental workers and members of the community.
The duo worked with sanitation officials and residents to clear refuse in the area as part of the state government’s efforts to promote environmental cleanliness and improve public hygiene across Lagos.
Addressing residents during the exercise, Sanwo-Olu expressed concern about the level of waste in some communities and urged people to take greater responsibility for their environment.
“See how dirty your environment is. We ought to remember where we are coming from. Check your surroundings and see how it looks and yet we are living there. It’s not nice,” the governor said.
The clean-up exercise also involved officials of the Lagos State Government, environmental workers and community members who came out to support the sanitation campaign aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
Sanwo-Olu warned against indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other practices that contribute to environmental pollution in the state.
He urged residents to cooperate with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) by properly disposing of waste and participating actively in sanitation activities.
“The LAWMA comes here every day and still meets dirt littered around the street. It’s not good,” he said.
The governor added that the exercise was purely a civic duty and not a political activity, stressing that the officials came to work and not to campaign.
