In a major strategic move to overhaul national security operations, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of newly promoted Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Mohammed Usaini Gumel and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to key commands and formations.

New Leadership for Intelligence and States
In the directive issued on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, DIG Gumel was appointed to head the high-profile Force Intelligence Department (FID), a move seen as a critical step in boosting the police’s proactive crime-fighting capabilities.
The deployment also sees new leadership across several state commands:
  • CP Aina Adesola takes charge of the Delta State Police Command.
  • CP Umar Mohammed Hajedia is deployed to Kebbi State.
  • CP Iyamah Daniel Edobor moves to lead the Bayelsa State Command.
Specialized Units and Strategic Roles
The shake-up extends to specialized units aimed at tackling human trafficking, maritime crimes, and internal discipline:
  • CP Osagie John Agans-Irabor: Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (FCID Annex, Lagos).
  • CP Adepegba K. Adetoye: Marine Unit (Force Headquarters).
  • CP Lasisi A. Titilola: Railway Command (Lagos).
  • CP Alhaji Mohammed Danlandi: X-Squad (FCID Annex, Kaduna).
Result-Oriented Leadership
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the IGP’s decision is aimed at strengthening operational capacity and enhancing public safety across Nigeria. IGP Egbetokun charged the newly deployed officers to uphold the “highest standards of professionalism” and ensure strict adherence to the rule of law in their new roles.
The redeployments come at a time when the Nigeria Police Force is under pressure to curtail rising waves of kidnapping and banditry in various parts of the country.
