Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Sharafadeen Alli, has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 Oyo State governorship election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alli made the declaration on Friday during a political gathering held in Yemetu, Ibadan North Local Government Area, where party members and supporters from across the state were in attendance.

According to the senator, his decision followed extensive consultations with APC leaders and stakeholders across Oyo State, describing his aspiration as a call to service rather than personal ambition.

“I am presenting myself to you as the governorship aspirant of our party. I will need the support of members from the unit to the state levels,” he said, adding that his political journey has been driven by a commitment to public impact and development.

He emphasized that his vision for the state would prioritize key sectors such as education and security, which he described as critical to sustainable growth and prosperity.

Alli also criticized the administration led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, promising to address what he termed governance shortcomings if elected governor.

Reflecting on his political experience, he referenced his time as Chief of Staff under former Governor Rashidi Ladoja, now the Olubadan of Ibadanland, stating that it shaped his understanding of effective governance and administrative coordination.

He further noted his contributions as a senator, highlighting legislative efforts and interventions aimed at improving the lives of residents across different sectors of the economy.

Describing himself as “a servant, friend, brother, and loyalist,” Alli acknowledged imperfections but maintained that he has remained accountable in public service.

The declaration event drew significant participation from APC members across Oyo State, although some notable political figures were absent.

Prior to the announcement, APC leaders in the Ibarapa zone had reportedly endorsed Alli as their preferred governorship candidate following a meeting held with him on April 14, 2026.
