Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has opened up about why she does not consider Nigerian male celebrities as potential romantic partners.

The award-winning artiste made the revelation while speaking during an interview on the red carpet at the BET Awards over the weekend.

Responding to a question about whether she would make the first move if given the opportunity to date Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, Tems said she would not because she views fellow Nigerian celebrities as family rather than romantic interests.

Although she admitted she knows of Okoye, the singer clarified that they have never met personally.

“I know who Maduka Okoye is, but I don’t know him personally. I wish I did though. But shooting shots at him, we don’t do that over here,” she said.

The ‘Love Me Jeje’ crooner added that her relationship with Nigerian entertainers is strictly platonic, noting that she sees her male colleagues as brothers.

“We [Nigerian celebrities] friend each other and we are family. I see my male colleagues as brothers,” Tems stated.

Her comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with fans reacting to her perspective on dating within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
