Newly sworn-in Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, has outlined his top priorities, pledging to strengthen government revenue, enforce fiscal discipline, and ensure that public funds deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.

Oyedele made the commitment in a statement shared on his Facebook page shortly after being sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He described his appointment as both a responsibility and an opportunity to tackle Nigeria’s fiscal challenges while unlocking pathways for economic growth and national development.

“In my new role, I will focus on supporting efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation, promote fiscal discipline, and ensure that public resources translate into real improvements in the lives of Nigerians,” he said.

The minister emphasized that decisions made today in managing public finances would have long-term implications for the country’s economic stability and prosperity.

Oyedele expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the appointment and to the Nigerian Senate for confirming his nomination, noting that the role represents a call to greater national service.

“This appointment is not merely a personal milestone; it is a call to greater service. Nigeria faces important fiscal challenges, but also immense opportunities,” he added.

He highlighted the importance of prudent financial management in building a resilient economy, stressing that government policies must prioritize efficient use of resources to improve citizens’ welfare.

Oyedele also pledged to work closely with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside other government institutions, the National Assembly, and development partners to drive Nigeria’s economic agenda.

According to him, collaboration across sectors will be key to strengthening the country’s fiscal framework and mobilising the resources needed for sustainable development.

He further underscored the values required in public service, including integrity, humility, and dedication, stating that he assumes office with a deep sense of duty to the nation.

“The work begins. God bless Nigeria,” Oyedele said, while also appreciating those who have supported him throughout his professional journey.
