Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sworn in Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance during a brief ceremony at the State House Abuja.

The appointment followed a cabinet adjustment that saw the former Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning — her third portfolio since the beginning of the current administration.

The swearing-in formally inducted Oyedele into the Federal Executive Council, where he is expected to assist in advancing the administration’s fiscal management and economic reform agenda.

Before his appointment, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which was established to overhaul Nigeria’s tax administration and fiscal policy framework.

The committee developed proposals aimed at simplifying the tax system, improving compliance and expanding government revenue.

A native of Ikaram in the Akoko area of Ondo State, the 50-year-old economist brings decades of experience in finance, taxation and economic policy.

He began his academic journey at Yaba College of Technology, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Oyedele has also participated in executive programmes at leading global institutions, including London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Kennedy School.

Before joining government, Oyedele spent 22 years with global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he joined in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.

He is also active in academia, serving as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the government’s push to deepen fiscal reforms and improve Nigeria’s economic governance framework.
