Former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo has died at the age of 40 after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.

According to reports by SCORENigeria, the incident occurred on Friday at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna. Eneramo, who had come on as a substitute in the second half, suddenly slumped on the field without any contact.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that immediate efforts were made to revive him, but they proved unsuccessful. He was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

A source told the outlet that the former striker “slumped and died right on the spot,” adding that medical intervention could not save him.

Eneramo, who had retired from professional football, enjoyed a career that saw him feature for top clubs including Beşiktaş J.K., Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Lobi Stars F.C.. He was also a member of the Nigeria national football team.

Before his passing, Eneramo was actively involved in grassroots football development, reportedly running his own academy.

Tributes have begun pouring in from across the football community. The official handle of the Super Eagles shared a tribute message alongside his image, writing, “Rest in peace Michael.”

His sudden death has left fans, former teammates, and the wider Nigerian football community in shock.
