A viral social media report claiming that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Pantami, is set to marry former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has been thoroughly debunked as false following an in-depth investigation by PRNigeria.

The claim, initially circulated by online platforms including Adamawa Pulse, quickly gained traction, attracting thousands of reactions and shares. The rumour drew added attention because Aisha Buhari recently completed her Islamic mourning period (iddah) following the death of her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari, in July 2025.

The speculation intensified after several public figures, among them former senator Shehu Sani and northern politician Magaji Muazu, shared or commented on the image, amplifying public curiosity and conjecture.

Former President Buhari died on July 13, 2025, in London at the age of 82. Married to Aisha Buhari since 1989, he is survived by his wife, eight children, and several grandchildren. Following the completion of her iddah on November 18, 2025, online speculation about her personal future began to circulate.

However, PRNigeria’s comprehensive fact-checking, supported by digital forensic analysis, established that the widely shared “pre-wedding” image is entirely fabricated and that the accompanying claim has no factual basis.

Checks across the official social media accounts of both Aisha Buhari and Professor Pantami revealed no announcement or indication of any marriage plans. Similarly, keyword searches across credible local and international news platforms yielded no supporting evidence.

Further forensic examination using InVid verification tools and AI-detection software confirmed that the viral image was artificially generated. Analysts found that the photograph was created by digitally superimposing the faces of the former Minister and the former First Lady onto a generic wedding-themed template.

Reacting to the claim in a phone conversation with PRNigeria, Professor Pantami categorically dismissed the rumour.

“It is shocking that anyone would fabricate such a rumour,” he said. “President Buhari is a father figure to us, and we regard his widow as a mother. The claim is baseless and impossible.”

The allegation was also dismissed by Bashir Ahmad, a former media aide to the late President, who described the story as an outright lie in a Hausa-language post on his Facebook page.

Additional context debunking the rumour is contained in the newly launched 600-page biography, From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, authored by Dr. Charles Omole and unveiled at the State House in December 2025. The book quotes Aisha Buhari as stating clearly that she has no intention of remarrying, describing her decision as pragmatic.

“She will not remarry… she has grandchildren; one husband was enough,” the biography notes, underscoring her transition to a quieter public life focused on family and her foundation.

With no credible evidence, multiple authoritative denials, and forensic proof of image manipulation, PRNigeria concludes that the viral marriage claim is false, misleading, and driven by an AI-generated fabrication rather than fact.
