The Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria has thrown its weight behind Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as a leading contender for the state’s governorship seat in the 2027 election.
The endorsement was announced on Thursday during a meeting of the association held at Mayfair Hall in Alausa, Lagos, where members expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership capacity.
Speaking at the gathering, the National President of the association, Olugbenga Adebola, said the decision aligns with the stance of the group’s Grand Patron, Bola Tinubu, who has consistently advocated for experienced and capable leadership in Lagos State.
Adebola described Hamzat as a seasoned technocrat and administrator with an impressive track record in governance and public service. He highlighted the deputy governor’s extensive experience across multiple administrations, noting his previous roles as Commissioner for Science and Technology and later Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under former governors Bola Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola.
According to him, Hamzat played a pivotal role in driving infrastructure development and advancing technological innovation in Lagos during his time in those offices.
He added that Hamzat, who currently serves under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, continues to make significant contributions to policy development and implementation in the state.
“Hamzat has consistently demonstrated capacity, competence, and tenacity in every position he has held. His contributions to governance and project execution have been vital to the achievements recorded across different administrations,” Adebola stated.
The association further praised Hamzat’s technical expertise, humility, and responsiveness to the needs of Lagos residents, urging both its members and the general public to support his governorship ambition.
They expressed confidence that his experience, integrity, and vision make him a strong candidate to lead the state in the coming years.
