Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated April 3, 2026, Yusuf expressed his interest in representing the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He stated that his decision followed extensive consultations and a desire to contribute to effective leadership and development in the constituency.
According to the letter, Yusuf emphasized his commitment to delivering infrastructural growth and improving human development across the constituency, while appealing for support from party stakeholders and constituents.
His declaration comes shortly after APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State endorsed him as their preferred candidate. The endorsement was reached during a high-level meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by key political figures, including elected officials and appointees.
Speaking at the meeting, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the endorsement as a collective decision, citing Yusuf Buhari’s perceived competence and growing acceptance within the party.
The meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s candidates for the 2027 presidential and gubernatorial elections, respectively.
However, the endorsement has not been without controversy. Some party insiders allege that Yusuf Buhari’s emergence may have been influenced by the state government, with one source claiming he is the preferred candidate of the governor.
The development signals an early start to political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly within Katsina State, a traditional stronghold of the APC.
