Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has approved a temporary reduction in official work hours for state employees in observance of the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods.
The adjustment, which takes effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026, was announced in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina.
According to the directive, public servants are to close work at 2 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and at 1 p.m. on Fridays throughout the fasting season.
The circular explained that the measure forms part of the state government’s welfare package for workers, enabling them to devote more time to prayers and spiritual reflection.
It also noted the importance of sustaining peace and tranquillity in the state, particularly as Osun prepares for its gubernatorial election later this year.
However, the arrangement does not apply to essential service providers, especially medical personnel, whose duties are critical and life-saving in nature.
Governor Adeleke further directed political office holders, accounting officers of Ministries, Departments and Agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government authorities, and Local Council Development Authorities to ensure strict compliance and wide dissemination of the circular among staff.
The move underscores the administration’s effort to balance public service delivery with the welfare and spiritual commitments of its workforce during the holy seasons.
