The Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has pledged to tackle all lingering disputes and emerging threats to party cohesion, as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the ruling party.

The committee, chaired by former APC National Caretaker Chairman and Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, was inaugurated in December by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

On Monday night, the committee held its inaugural meeting at the chairman’s lodge in Abuja, where members outlined strategies for executing their mandate.

Prominent party leaders at the meeting included Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State. Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Senator Adamu Aliero, and the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.

A former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire (SAN), who serves as Secretary of the committee, also attended the meeting.

Governors Bassey Otu of Cross River State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, and Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, who are members of the committee, were absent.

Although no official communiqué was issued after the meeting, the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed, later confirmed that the meeting held.

Speaking shortly after his appointment last December, Buni assured party members that the committee would adopt inclusive and consultative approaches to conflict resolution.

“The committee will adopt strategic engagements and wide consultations to develop an all-encompassing and productive outcome that will stand the test of time,” Buni said.

He added that the goal is to give both old and new party members, particularly aggrieved stakeholders, a renewed sense of belonging and inclusion.

Buni further noted that the committee would deploy proactive measures to address potential threats before they escalate into full-blown crises.

He urged members of the committee to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations, stressing that unity remains critical to the APC’s stability and electoral success.
