Veteran Nigerian actor Jim Iyke has sparked conversation in the entertainment industry after describing internal sabotage as one of the biggest problems affecting Nollywood.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor did not hold back, stating that the industry is filled with individuals who actively undermine others and, in his view, require professional help.

“If there is one thing I would love to change about Nollywood, it would be to purge saboteurs from the industry. The industry is full of saboteurs. They can’t help themselves. They need therapy,” Iyke said.

Beyond his criticism of the industry, the actor also shared a deeply personal moment that left a lasting impact on him. He recalled showing his son a project he was working on, only to receive an unexpectedly emotional compliment.

“I showed my son something I was working on, and he looked at me for a second and said, ‘Papa, you are a genius.’ I went to the bathroom and had a quiet cry,” he revealed.

Jim Iyke also took time to acknowledge fellow actress Kate Henshaw, naming her as the colleague he enjoys working with the most in Nollywood.

His remarks have since stirred reactions, particularly around the challenges and internal dynamics within Nigeria’s film industry.
