Popular Nigerian skit maker Oderhowho Joseph Efe, better known as Carter Efe, has had his official TikTok account permanently banned after the platform cited repeated violations of its community guidelines.
The ban was confirmed on Wednesday. Before it was taken down, the account had amassed more than 5.6 million followers and over 158 million likes. It served as one of Carter Efe’s primary platforms for releasing comedy skits, promoting his music and engaging fans through live sessions.
This is not the first time the content creator has lost a major TikTok page. In June 2025, TikTok removed another of his accounts that had grown to about 3.5 million followers. That suspension followed controversial comments he made about Nigerian singer Wizkid during a livestream. Carter Efe later apologised for the remarks and returned to the platform, steadily rebuilding his audience until the replacement account surpassed 5.6 million followers.
In a separate development, the comedian has also addressed why he stopped producing relationship-centred content with his former girlfriend. Speaking on a recent episode of the podcast Cocktails & Takeaways, Carter Efe revealed that his online persona had become too closely tied to the relationship. He said he found it difficult to create videos whenever his partner was unavailable and eventually realised that anchoring his career to another person risked limiting both his professional growth and personal identity.
“I began to see the need to separate my own brand from the relationship so that my career would not depend on whether I was with my partner or not,” he explained.
The dual setbacks — the latest permanent ban and his decision to step away from couple-focused content — highlight the challenges faced by high-profile creators navigating platform rules and personal branding in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital entertainment space.
