Tinubu Celebrates Tony Elumelu at Birthday, Hails Him as ‘African Business Icon’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu on the occasion of his birthday on March 22.

In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Elumelu as “an African business icon and a standout advocate of Nigerian and African enterprise.”

Elumelu, who chairs Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa, and Transcorp, is also the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

President Tinubu commended the business leader for his resilience, commitment to excellence, and strong belief in Africapitalism a philosophy that promotes private sector-led development across the continent.

He further praised Elumelu’s dedication to youth empowerment, particularly through the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme.

According to the President, the initiative has trained over 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and provided more than 24,000 entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed capital of $5,000 each.

As Elumelu marks his birthday, Tinubu joined family members, friends, and associates in wishing him continued good health, strength, and greater success in his endeavours.
