President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Chief of Naval Operations of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral Musa Katagum, who passed away on February 19, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended condolences to the family of the late senior officer, as well as to officers and men of the Nigerian Navy and the leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Tinubu described Katagum’s death as a significant loss to both the military and the country, noting his wealth of experience and invaluable contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime security framework.

During his distinguished career, Rear Admiral Katagum served in several strategic roles, including Director of Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre (PC4), and Chief of Intelligence of the Nigerian Navy.

He was appointed Chief of Naval Operations in November last year, a position considered central to the Navy’s operational effectiveness.

The President commended the late officer for his valour, exceptional leadership, and dedication to duty, adding that he mentored a generation of officers and played a key role in advancing Nigeria’s naval capabilities.

Tinubu prayed that Almighty Allah grant the late Rear Admiral eternal rest and comfort his family, colleagues, and comrades in the Armed Forces during this period of mourning.
