The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) has announced plans to begin the demolition of illegal structures, street obstructions, shanties, and containers in Umuahia starting today, Monday.

The General Manager of UCDA, Kingsley Agomoh, told journalists over the weekend that the exercise follows the expiration of a grace period previously granted to property owners after several rounds of engagement.

Agomoh emphasized that the demolition aligns with the Abia State government’s commitment to improving the aesthetics and urban planning of the state capital, in accordance with existing laws.

He warned that owners of containers, shanties, and other street obstructions who failed to dismantle their properties by Sunday would have them removed and impounded by UCDA officials.

Additionally, the General Manager directed owners of petrol and gas stations located near residential areas to immediately present their documentation for revalidation, reinforcing the authority’s resolve to ensure compliance and orderly urban development in Umuahia.
