Senator Abdul-Aziz Abubakar Yari representing Zamfara West has called on Nigerians to embrace collective responsibility in confronting the wave of violence and insecurity sweeping across the country, describing security as a shared national duty rather than the sole preserve of government.
In a press statement sighted by this journal, the former Zamfara Governor extended condolences to families who have lost loved ones to recent attacks and urged citizens to cooperate actively with law enforcement by sharing credible intelligence and maintaining community vigilance.
“Terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements do not distinguish between tribe, faith, or political affiliation. Their victims are Nigerians. Therefore, our response must also be Nigerian, united, collective, and unwavering,” Yari stated.
The senator also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of Nigeria’s armed forces, intelligence agencies, and police for their ongoing operations, while appealing to traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and civil society organisations to reinforce community peace efforts.
Yari, whose home state of Zamfara has historically been one of Nigeria’s most insecurity-ravaged states, warned against ethnic and religious scapegoating, arguing that divisive sentiments serve only the agenda of criminal elements.
