Netanyahu Backs Trump’s 2-Week Iran Ceasefire, Sets Tough Conditions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thrown his weight behind a controversial two-week ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump, aimed at de-escalating tensions with Iran.

The move, however, comes with clear conditions and limitations, signaling that the pause in hostilities may be fragile.

Conditional Support from Israel

According to official statements from Netanyahu’s office, Israel supports the temporary halt in attacks only if Iran complies with key demands, including reopening strategic maritime routes and ceasing hostilities.

Crucially, Netanyahu clarified that the ceasefire does not extend to Lebanon, suggesting that Israel’s military posture in that region remains unchanged.

Trump’s Ceasefire Gamble

Trump announced the development on his Truth Social platform, describing it as a “double-sided ceasefire” between the parties.

He indicated that the decision followed what he called significant military success and progress toward a broader agreement.

“We have already met and exceeded all Military objectives,” Trump stated, adding that negotiations are advancing toward “long-term peace with Iran, and peace in the Middle East.”

Fragile Path to Peace

The announcement comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, where any pause in hostilities is often met with cautious optimism.

While Washington signals progress toward a lasting agreement, Israel’s firm conditions—and the exclusion of Lebanon—highlight the complex and multi-front nature of the conflict.

For now, the two-week window offers a brief فرصة for diplomacy—but whether it leads to lasting peace remains uncertain.
