President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the peaceful conduct of the presidential election in the Benin Republic, describing it as a strong reflection of democratic resilience, while pledging Nigeria’s full support to the incoming administration of president-elect Romuald Wadagni.
In a personally signed congratulatory letter following Wadagni’s victory in the April 12 poll, Tinubu expressed optimism about strengthening bilateral relations between both countries. He also highlighted the need for deeper collaboration to improve regional security and drive economic prosperity within ECOWAS and the broader African continent.
The Nigerian leader noted that Wadagni’s emergence—after securing an overwhelming majority of votes—signals a new chapter in Benin’s democratic journey. He said the outcome reflects the confidence of the Beninese people in Wadagni’s leadership, citing his track record as Finance Minister.
Tinubu further applauded the people and government of Benin for ensuring a peaceful electoral process, describing it as a testament to their commitment to democratic ideals and stability during the election period.
He emphasized the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Benin, rooted in shared history, culture, and cooperation, expressing confidence that both nations would continue to build on these ties.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s readiness to work with the incoming government, Tinubu assured Wadagni of his support as he prepares to assume office, wishing him wisdom, strength, and success in leading the country.
